Trondheim Public Library
Trondheim Public Library consists of the main downtown library and five branches around the city. The public library is also the host of Sør-Trøndelag County Library.
The library offers a wide range of services, from lending books, films and music to a newspaper reading lounge, special outreach services for patients in health institutions and special programmes for immigrants.
Founded in 1902, the public library's modern era started in 1988 with the opening of the new main library building in the centre of Trondheim. The library's main complex includes the elegantly restored town hall from 1712, a 200-year-old merchant building and the spacious new building where most of the libraries activities take place. Also on display in the library are medieval church ruins from this site.
As we prioritise information technology in our library services, we provide free public wireless access to the Internet.
The library has more than 1 250 000 visitors each year and circulation is at about 1 100 000 volumes annually. Students of all ages are our most frequent patrons.
Our main objective is to be a centre of culture and knowledge and an inspirational meeting place. We also hold a wide variety of cultural events during the year – from readings with popular authors to classical music concerts.
