Civil Marriage Ceremony
The Mayor's Office perform civil marriage ceremonies at Trondheim City Hall, Munkegata 1. This is free of charge.
Before you can get married, the Norwegian Tax Administration must check whether you meet the conditions for entering into marriage. This means that you have to provide some information. The process takes about two to three weeks, so make sure you allow plenty of time before the wedding.
Please read and follow steps 1-3 in this tutorial. It is also important that The Mayor's Office (the wedding official) receives the wedding certificate at least 14 days ahead of the ceremony.

The civil marriage ceremony is free of charge.
The wedding couple, witnesses and guests have to attend at City Hall approximately 15 minutes before the appointment. There is a waiting hall outside Storsalen, where the ceremony is performed. Sometimes, there are more than one wedding procession waiting here. To make the experience optimal, we recommend not to attend more than 15 minutes ahead of your scheduled time.
The wedding couple has to display their credentials (e.g. passports). They also have to bring two witnesses for the ceremony (usually best man/maid of honor, but could be any two persons at age 18 or above).
The ceremony is usually performed in Norwegian language. You have to make an appointment with us if you want the ceremony performed in English. Likewise, if you want the ceremony performed in other languages. Also, in that case, you have to aquire a certified translator at your own expence.
There is only a 15 minutes timeslot for the ceremony. If you wish to enhance the ceremony with music or poetry reading, this has to take place within the given time frame. Make the appointment for any extra ceremonial events when you book the ceremony.
This video (below) shows a normal wedding ceremonial procedure (in Norwegian language).
